FAQ

Does my voice leave my Mac?

For dictation and file transcription, no. Recognition runs on your machine and Kana makes no network call for it, which you can verify with Little Snitch or by turning off your wifi. AI rewriting is the exception: it sends your transcript to our proxy, which forwards it to Claude and keeps none of it.

Is there a free version?

There is a 14-day trial of the whole app, with no card and no account. After that Kana is $9.99 once. Only the AI rewriting is a subscription, because it is the only part that costs anything to run.

What happens if rewriting fails?

You get your raw transcript inserted instead. Every failure path does this: no network, timeout, expired licence, rate limit. Rewriting failing must never cost you your words.

Which languages work?

Twenty-five European languages on the Parakeet engine, plus Japanese, Chinese and Korean. English is the best supported today.

Does it work on an Intel Mac?

No. Kana is Apple Silicon only, and macOS 26 or later.

How many Macs does a licence cover?

Three. You can release a seat yourself from Settings at any time.

Can I get a refund?

Within 30 days, no questions asked.
