Kana as a Letterly alternative

A voice-notes app that takes a rambling recording and rewrites it into a finished shape: an email, a post, a list. It runs on iPhone, Android, Windows, web and Mac, and syncs between them.

What Letterly does better

Letterly is built for a case Kana does not serve: you talk for three minutes with no structure and it hands back something shaped, kept in a library you can search later. It covers 90+ languages with translation, transcribes meetings from Zoom, Meet and Teams with speakers separated, and follows you onto a phone. Kana has no store, no sync, no meetings and no phone app.

Where Kana is different

  • Transcription happens on the Mac, with no upload and no account.
  • Kana keeps nothing. Letterly's value is the library it builds, which is the same thing seen from the other side.
  • There is no phone app and no sync, on purpose.
