Kana as a Wispr Flow alternative
The best-funded product in the category, with the strongest brand and a polished cross-platform experience. Its recognition runs in the cloud.
What Wispr Flow does better
Wispr Flow runs on Windows, iOS and Android as well as the Mac, covers 100+ languages, and its writing model is good at inferring tone from context without being told. It also answers the compliance question properly, with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, a HIPAA-ready BAA, a Privacy Mode that retains nothing, and an opt-out from model training. If you work across operating systems, Kana does not solve your problem at all: it is Apple Silicon Mac only and will stay that way.
Where Kana is different
- Dictation and file transcription happen on your Mac. Wispr promises not to keep your audio; Kana never sends it, which is a different kind of promise.
- Kana is $9.99 once for dictation and file transcription. Only the AI rewriting is a subscription.
- Dictation keeps working with the network off.
