Kana as a Dictation Daddy alternative

A cloud dictation service aimed at professional and medical writing, with terminology and spoken formatting commands in the base price instead of sold as an add-on.

What Dictation Daddy does better

Dictation Daddy ships medical terminology as standard, which is the one thing Kana has no story for at all, and it supports spoken formatting commands, custom variables and custom prompts. It runs on Mac, Windows, Android and as a Chrome extension, takes Philips SpeechMike hardware, offers HIPAA and SOC 2 on request, and will run on your own API key for unmetered transcription. For clinical dictation, Kana is the wrong tool and this is the right category.

Where Kana is different

  • Nothing is uploaded, which is what makes Kana usable where sending recordings to a vendor is not allowed. Dictation Daddy discards the audio after transcribing, which is a promise about retention rather than about transmission.
  • Dictation is $9.99 once rather than $15 a month.
  • Kana is a menu bar app with no background service and nothing in the Dock.
